Don't Forget The Grip!
An often overlooked component, especially when purchasing golf clubs off the shelf, is the grip. A proper fit when it comes to the grip is vitally important! How you swing the club is determined in large part by how you hold the club, it all starts with the hands.
Basically, most grips are manufactured in three basic sizes, Standard, Midsize and Jumbo. There is also ladies sized grips which are somewhat smaller than men's standard. Basic, that's three sizes for millions of people, all with very different hand sizes! Some players fit into one of those basic sizes quite nicely, while the majority of golfers do not. Some people require smaller than standard, some between standard and midsize, some between midsize and jumbo and the remainder somewhere larger than jumbo.
Fitting sizes smaller than standard can be accomplished a couple of different ways. Men will small hands sometimes fit into a lady's standard sized grip. It is also possible to stretch a grip during installation in order to make it smaller than it's manufactured size. Adding layers of build up tape will expand the circumference of the grip making it larger in increments proportional to the number of build up layers applied.
Don't forget this important fitting requirement when you purchase golf clubs. This is part of the fitting process if you have your golf clubs custom fit by a competent club fitter.
